Welcome back to part 2 of my journey into Vaping, in this I will take you through the RDA jungle and the scary battery safety maze. Have fun. (Part one can be seen here – http://www.vapor-store.co.uk/watts-a-coil-when-its-an-ohm/)
Making the move.
So after Vaping my tanks for a little while and eventually disregarding the SMOK tank as it just felt like I wasn’t using it to its full potential of awesomeness due to not using the quad or triple. I had been using my Subtank a lot and messing about with different coils sub ohm non sub ohm etc just trying to chase the flavour. So I started researching various RDA tanks as I thought they looked cool and constantly being told by the Vaping elders that nothing’s as good as dripping, after a few tokes on other peoples I was hooked. My father in law was quite the Vaping exhibitionist so I ventured round his one night to see what the crack was about. I got round there and next thing I knew I was being told about coil density and resistance, spaced coils, Clapton coils and all kinds of fuzzy information that just flew through my mind. He let go of one of his former glories a Baal V2, if anyone knows this RDA it’s a big cloud chucker first couple of goes on it (he built it for me due to my infancy) I struggled, like really struggled to get all this cloud out of my body. Looking a bit sick from just Vaping away I decided I need to try and build it my self, I got given some 26ga kanthal and a small pack of cheap cotton (think from a RDTA tank or something). I set to it, grabbed myself a screw driver, found a handy website for calculating coil builds ohm-age and what sort of watts/volts I should put through(http://www.steam-engine.org/wirewiz.asp ). I built this thing with 6 wraps, parallel and fired it on 45watts that sucker glowed like a solar eclipse it just filled me with wonder.
Big batteries, bigger mods.
So to accompany this new found love for all things sub ohm and dripper I got myself a new box, the joyetech Cuboid 150w (later the 200w with firmware). I think everyone knows this mod as you either have this at some point or a wismec RX200, but I’ll talk you through anyway. It takes two 18650s I was using the Efest 3200s as they where on offer on Amazon (other vendors available) and this thing was a beast it fired up to 100 with my build in it easy (sticking to safety guides here kids) even though if I’m honest I didn’t need it. So sooner or later you start to wonder, what are other build decks like and there’s a lot out there dual pin, quad pin, low holes, high holes as long as it has a positive and negative it’s out there.
The new Kid in town.
I ventured to my local B & M being quite familiar with the owner there now I trusted his judgment, and after drooling over the glass counter for a while I went with the Kennedy 24 with a glass top. I had loved the look of the Kennedy for a while but I have a thing about glass, I love seeing things at work. So plonked a dual Clapton in this thing, wicked it using a new technique the Scottish roll (wicking is an art of its own) and went to town on it. This think was dreamy, just watching clouds pour out of the glass top was awesome, and the taste was incredible just every flavour would burst in your mouth. I enjoyed the glass top so much I pretty much forgot the steel one and also it had lost its cool on me, which was all good and well… Until… I dropped the top during filling. It shattered across the garden and my poor naked Kennedy was just waiting for its metal jacket to be put on. I used it for a day or two but it just wasn’t cutting it 🙁 But as luck had it I was sent a tugboat via another mystery box 🙂 this thing was metal but it was low and mean looking, I only ran a single coil build in there as I felt the design didn’t warrant a dual (many would disagree).
The passion for fashion.
So I needed glass back in my life, if you haven’t tried a full glass top on your RDA do it. It may be a placebo effect but it just looks great and feels smoother, I went and got a monkey King RDA. This thing was pretty really small deck which I wanted as I had heard information advising the lower the RDA the better the taste, my first build in it was a quad coil dual twisted 28ga kanthal ( getting more confident) and I still use it now it just tastes great. There is a small issue that you over look with smaller RDAs and that’s spit back. When you hear your coils wicked you will notice it spits everywhere a bit like a pan of fat, and when you suck on the end without a great deal of clearance it spits at you a bit. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but still annoying as the juice is pretty hot when it’s ready to make the leap of faith into your gob and also ruins tongue if it happens too often.
A new Doge in town.
So again I made another change, this time it was more for the sake of being a bit flush and seeing it cheap. I managed to get a doge V2, quite an old mod now (much cloud) but it works great thanks to the simple deck design and big bore drip tip and air holes. I use this now pretty much daily as it chucks clouds and tastes great with the right build in it. I’ve also had a Samurai deck which was only half an inch tall… But as you can guess the spit back was too much, also believe it was a clone so it didn’t feel great.
Onwards and upwards
My next venture will probably be a new MOD as I get bored quickly and the cuboid has shown me all its got, don’t get me wrong it’s a great mod it does everything you want and more if you want to fiddle with the interface and software but I’m looking to get Into the Mech world.
Join me next time when I will hopefully have a new box mod to talk about till your bored and maybe some new builds, although these where very brief descriptions I do intend to provide more in depth analysis of the decks when I get a chance. If your this far I want to say thanks for reading and hopefully speak to you soon.
